Voici une nouvelle plutôt énorme puisque le géant Google vient de s’offrir pour la modique somme de 12,5 milliards de dollars le fabricant américain de portable Motorola Mobility. L'objectif sous-jacent du géant américain est de donner un nouvel élan à son système d’exploitation mobile Android.
Avec cette transaction, Google fait aussi main basse sur les 17000 brevets que détient Motorola, ce qui représente dans le marché concurrentiel actuel une véritable aubaine et arme dans la course aux smartphones. Avec ces nouveaux brevets Google devient le deuxième plus gros portefeuille de brevets derrière Microsoft. Un dernier point intéressant réside également dans le fait que Google aura désormais la capacité de fabriquer et développer son propre matériel. Malgré tout, Googla a confirmé à tous ses partenaires qu’il continuerait à collaborer sur le système Android. L’opération sera finalisée fin 2011-début 2012

(NYSE: MMI) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Google will acquire Motorola Mobility for $40.00 per share in cash, or a total of about $12.5 billion, a premium of 63% to the closing price of Motorola Mobility shares on Friday, August 12, 2011. The transaction was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies. “Motorola Mobility’s total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies. Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers. I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers.” The acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated Android partner, will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. Google will run Motorola Mobility as a separate business.
